Position Overview
The Contracts Manager (Offshore) is responsible for the management and administration of major offshore contracts throughout the contract lifecycle, from strategy development and tendering through execution, variations, and close-out. This role is pivotal for protecting commercial interests, managing contractor performance, and resolving disputes on high-value offshore projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop contract strategies and contracting plans for major offshore EPCI, SURF, and subsea installation projects
- Manage the tendering process including RFP preparation, bid evaluation, commercial clarification, and contract award recommendations
- Draft, review, and negotiate contract terms and conditions using standard forms (LOGIC, FIDIC, bespoke) and client-specific frameworks
- Administer contracts during execution including payment certification, variation management, and performance monitoring
- Manage contractor claims and dispute resolution processes; coordinate with legal counsel as required
- Conduct contract risk assessments and develop risk allocation strategies during procurement
- Ensure contractual compliance with insurance, guarantees, bonds, and regulatory requirements
- Prepare commercial reports, contract status updates, and exposure analyses for project management
- Lead commercial negotiations for contract amendments, scope changes, and settlement agreements
- Manage contract close-out including final account settlement, warranty management, and lessons learned
Qualifications
Required
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, Engineering, or related field; legal qualification or MBA preferred
- Certifications: CIPS Level 6 or FCIPS preferred; contract management certification (NCMA, IACCM)
- Experience: Minimum 10 years in contract management for offshore oil & gas or subsea projects; experience with EPCI and major installation contracts
- Technical Skills: Contract law and drafting; tender evaluation; commercial negotiation; claims management; FIDIC/LOGIC standard forms; dispute resolution; risk allocation
Preferred
- Experience with international arbitration and dispute boards
- Knowledge of subsea and SURF-specific contract structures
- Offshore wind contract management experience
- Insurance and risk transfer expertise
