Work Pattern
Offshore rotation (28/28) or Onshore Support
Reports To
FPSO Operations Manager / Plant Manager
Position Overview
The FPSO Maintenance Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing maintenance activities on an FPSO unit, encompassing both topsides process equipment and marine/hull systems. This role requires the ability to manage maintenance across a uniquely broad range of equipment types, from rotating machinery and process vessels to hull structures and mooring systems. The dual nature of FPSO maintenance (process + marine) and the rotational offshore work pattern make experienced candidates extremely difficult to source.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the FPSO maintenance strategy, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programmes.
- Manage the offshore maintenance team, including discipline supervisors, technicians, and contract labour.
- Oversee maintenance of topsides process equipment, including turbines, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, and separators.
- Manage marine and hull maintenance, including ballast systems, cargo systems, hull inspection, and tank coating maintenance.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance activities within the permit-to-work system.
- Manage the computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) and ensure accurate work order and asset data.
- Coordinate with Class surveyors for annual and special survey requirements.
- Manage spare parts inventory and procurement of maintenance materials.
- Conduct reliability analysis and implement reliability improvement initiatives (RCM, RBI, FMEA).
- Support shutdown planning and execution for major inspection and maintenance campaigns.
Qualifications
Required
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Electrical Engineering
- Certifications: BOSIET/FOET; STCW (for marine aspects); Medical fitness certificate
- Experience: 8–12 years in offshore/FPSO maintenance engineering with experience across both process and marine systems
- Technical Skills: Preventive and predictive maintenance; CMMS (SAP PM, Maximo, or equivalent); rotating machinery maintenance; marine systems maintenance; Class survey coordination; RCM and RBI methodologies
Preferred
- Experience with FPSO mooring system inspection and maintenance
- Involvement in hull inspection and tank maintenance planning
- Knowledge of condition monitoring technologies (vibration, thermography, oil analysis)
- Familiarity with digital maintenance management and predictive analytics
Market Intelligence
$950–1,400/day
Shortage Level: Critical
Key Skills Gap: Engineers with both topsides process and marine/hull maintenance experience; CMMS proficiency; reliability engineering capability; candidates willing and able to work rotational offshore
Regions in Highest Demand: Southeast Asia, Brazil, West Africa, Middle East, Australia
Demand Drivers: Growing FPSO fleet requiring maintenance engineers, ageing FPSO units requiring increased maintenance, difficulty attracting engineers to rotational offshore roles
