Position Overview
The FPSO Operations Manager carries overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of an FPSO unit, managing both the marine and production aspects of the vessel. This role uniquely requires competence across both oil & gas production operations and marine/shipping operations, making it one of the most demanding and scarce roles in the offshore sector. With the global FPSO fleet expanding rapidly, the demand for qualified FPSO Operations Managers significantly exceeds supply.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry overall operational responsibility for the FPSO unit, including production operations, marine operations, and aviation/ logistics.
- Ensure compliance with the FPSO safety case, flag state requirements, coastal state regulations, and Class society requirements.
- Manage the FPSO offshore leadership team, including OIM, Marine Superintendent, and Production Supervisors.
- Oversee production performance and drive optimisation to meet or exceed production targets.
- Ensure marine and nautical integrity of the FPSO, including hull, stability, mooring, and marine systems.
- Manage the annual maintenance and inspection programme, including hull inspection, tank inspection, and Class surveys.
- Plan and coordinate FPSO shutdowns and major maintenance campaigns.
- Manage the emergency response organisation for the FPSO, including coordination with stand-by vessels and shore-based support.
- Oversee offloading operations and crude oil export, including offtake tanker coordination and metering.
- Coordinate with onshore management, partners, and regulatory authorities on operational matters.
Qualifications
Required
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Maritime qualification (Class 1 Certificate of Competency)
- Certifications: BOSIET/FOET; OPITO OIM Controlling Emergencies; STCW; DPA qualification; IWCF (preferred)
- Experience: 15–20+ years in offshore/FPSO operations with 5+ years in FPSO operations management; both marine and production operations experience essential
- Technical Skills: FPSO production and marine operations; safety case and regulatory compliance; hull and marine integrity; mooring system management; crude offloading; emergency management
Preferred
- Experience managing FPSO operations in harsh environments (North Sea, Arctic, typhoon-prone areas)
- Involvement in FPSO start-up and first oil operations
- Knowledge of FPSO conversion and newbuild technical requirements
- Familiarity with turret and mooring system integrity management
