About This Role
Our client, a leading subsea EPC contractor, is looking for a Subsea Controls Engineer to join their growing subsea systems team in Kuala Lumpur. This role is responsible for the design, engineering, and integration of subsea control systems including subsea control modules (SCM), electrohydraulic umbilicals, and topside control systems for deepwater field developments. You will work across FEED, detailed design, and installation support phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform engineering design for subsea control systems including SCM, EPU, and subsea distribution systems
- Develop hydraulic and electrohydraulic control system schematics using industry standards (API 6A, API 17F, NACE)
- Prepare subsea control system specifications, design basis, and technical datasheets
- Interface with subsea tree manufacturers, umbilical suppliers, and control system vendors
- Conduct umbilical design including hydraulic circuit sizing, power cable sizing, and fiber optic requirements
- Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SIT (Site Integration Testing) for control system packages
- Provide technical support during offshore installation and commissioning of subsea control systems
- Liaise with subsea installation contractors and vessel crews for control system deployment operations
- Review vendor documentation, technical queries, and design change requests
Core Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of subsea controls engineering experience in offshore oil & gas
- Strong technical background in subsea control systems: SCM, subsea distribution, and topside control
- Proficiency in hydraulic system design and fluid mechanics principles
- Knowledge of subsea communication protocols and instrumentation (HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Profibus)
- Familiarity with API 17F, API 6A, and NORSOK standards for subsea systems
- Experience with umbilical design and subsea chemical injection systems
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation Engineering
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in technical documentation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FMC/TechnipFMC or Aker Solutions subsea control system architectures
- Knowledge of dual-capability (diving and ROV) subsea intervention systems
- Familiarity with subsea HIPPS (High Integrity Pressure Protection System) design
- Experience in deepwater (1,500m+) subsea control system projects
- Background in subsea Christmas tree (Xmas tree) control system integration
