Subsea Design Lead

About This Role

We are seeking an experienced Subsea Design Lead to head our subsea design team in Kuala Lumpur. You will be responsible for overseeing all subsea engineering activities across concept, FEED, and detailed design phases for deepwater projects. This senior leadership role offers the opportunity to shape technical strategy and mentor a team of specialists on world-class deepwater developments.

As Design Lead, you will interface with project teams, clients, and third-party vendors to ensure technical excellence and compliance with international standards. The ideal candidate brings proven leadership in subsea system design and a track record of delivering complex deepwater projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the subsea design team, providing technical direction and mentorship
• Oversee subsea system design activities across concept, FEED, and detailed design phases
• Ensure compliance with DNV, ISO, and industry standards (API, NORSOK)
• Conduct technical reviews and sign-off on design deliverables and documentation
• Coordinate with SURF, subsea production systems, and topside interface teams
• Support S-lay and J-lay installation analysis and methodology development
• Manage engineering changes and resolve technical queries with stakeholders
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement in design processes and tools
• Interface with client technical teams and class societies on design matters

Core Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Ocean Engineering
• Minimum 12+ years of experience in subsea system design for deepwater projects
• Proficiency in SACS and SESAM software for structural analysis
• Expert knowledge of subsea architecture, flowlines, umbilicals, and risers
• Experience with S-lay and J-lay installation methods and analysis
• Familiarity with DNV-OS-F101, DNV-OS-C501, and relevant API standards
• Demonstrated team leadership and project management capabilities
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multicultural teams
