About This Role
Our client, a globally recognised EPC contractor with major deepwater projects across Southeast Asia and West Africa, is seeking an experienced Subsea Pipeline Engineer to support pipeline design and installation activities for subsea tieback and new-build developments. This role is based in Kuala Lumpur and offers the opportunity to work on world-class deepwater projects from FEED through to detailed design and installation support.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform pipeline stress analysis and design calculations for subsea pipelines using industry standards (ASME B31.8, API 5L, DNV-OS-F101)
- Develop pipeline route selection, wall thickness determination, and collapse/buckle assessment reports
- Prepare pipeline design documentation including design basis, engineering criteria, and technical specifications
- Provide installation engineering support for S-lay, J-lay, and reel-lay methods
- Coordinate with subsea installation contractors during offshore campaign phases
- Conduct on-bottom stability analysis and free-span assessments
- Interface with subsea hardware (SPS, manifold) engineering teams to ensure compatible pipeline connections
- Review supplier documentation and factory acceptance tests for pipeline materials and coating systems
- Support risk-based assessment of pipeline integrity throughout project lifecycle
Core Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of subsea pipeline engineering experience in offshore oil & gas
- Proven experience in pipeline design for deepwater applications (water depth >500m)
- Strong knowledge of DNV-OS-F101, API 5L, and ASME B31.8 pipeline codes
- Hands-on experience with S-lay and/or J-lay installation methods and associated engineering
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Marine Engineering
- Familiarity with pipeline software tools (e.g., Autopipe, Caesar II, or similar)
- Experience working on FPSO or offshore platform pipeline tieback projects
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with reel-lay installation methods
- Knowledge of subsea insulation and heating systems for hydrate management
- Familiarity with Malaysia's Petronas technical standards and review processes
- Experience in SCR (Steel Catenary Riser) or hybrid riser design
- Advanced degree in Offshore or Mechanical Engineering
